Gods: The Usual List of Celestial Suspects.

The Sidh gods of the Seelie Court, also called Tuatha de Danann (the first righful rulers): a group of gods native to Our World who were worshiped by the native populations in the Ancient Age and used for opera plot fodder in the Classical Age. Their foibles and humanity diminish their aura of godliness and today many believe, like the Dwarves, that the Sidh were not gods at all but a now extinct race of humans, pruned by Evolution from the Tree of Life for unknown reasons. The Sidh battled the Firbolgs who were another race of humans for dominion of Our World. In the end neither race dominated for the war between them drove them all to extinction.

The Chief Sidh gods were:

Dagda The Bow: the Pater of the Sidh (deposed by his elder son)

Queen Oohagh the Fair the Mater of the Sidh gods

Angus Mac Org The Bear (a changeling who betrayed his father, abandoned his first wife, and later murdered his second wife)

Battle Maiden Maeve The Gesith (which inspired the term 'Maeve Valor true eyed and tragic)

Prince Arawn The Warrior (the second and favorite son and field commander of the armies allied against the Dark Lord of the Dark God and his army of monsters)

Prince Fianna The Slinger and his twin sister Princess Fiannalana The Weaver (the patrons of the Celestial Elves )

Badhb The triad goddess of war (not per say a Sidh but allied to the Sidh), Morrigu = fearlessness, Neamhan = berserk courage ,Macha = intoxication of violence

The Gods of the West: A distant group of celestial beings who presided over the creation of Our World (at least according to Celestial Myth). They dwelt in Paradise in the West. Their motives were as obscure as their faces. Like all gods they were inscrutable. Human Nature wants to simplify their essence as all good but that does not mean they were good. They lived in timeless perfection and infinite dimension outside of the physical world of Nature which made them the opposite to Our World in every physical way. Their Rune translated: Inscrutable. They perished at the end of the Third Age, reputedly via a Device, their execution ordered by Gildagad and carried out by his secret executor Tacitus. Their crime: they cursed humanity on Our World with the 'Curse of Celestial Calamity' after Maestus the Damned created the infamous Five Devices capable of killing anyone -- including gods. So they self fulfilled their own ruin.

Father god of Fire: a lessor celestial being commissioned by the Gods of the West to prepare Our World for habitation. Human Nature wants to simplify his essence as all evil but that does not mean he was. As Fire he represented all the forces of Fire: light, shadow, life giving warmth, violent death, destruction, chaos, strife, anarchy, but also rebirth and purification and the renewal of life on earth. He saw the physical quality of Nature on Our World as requiring the creation of Time, Change, Death. So he created Time, Change, and Death. And he was damned accordingly. He also created Competition, Strife and War as primary drives in all living things on Our World to insure the survival and advancement of the strongest. Modern scientists, who want to remove all divinity from Our World, later renamed him Evolution. His rune translated: Life in death and death in life. He was murdered via a Device by Cleardan with the reluctant blessing of Mother god.

Mother god of Waters: a lessor celestial being co-commissioned by the Gods of the West to prepare Our World for habitation. She was married to Father god of Fire. She accepted the gift of time, change and death as essential for survival on Our World but later divorced Father when he introduced competition, strife and war as the sole primary drives for life on Our World. Mother believed that civilization, the joining together in social bonds, could insure survival without the necessity of warfare and strife. She believed weakness could promote strength in the fostering of social values such as mercy and compassion and restraint. She embraced all living things in general and Cleardan, The Master of The Havens, in particular in order to promote all aspects of civilization as a beneficial alternative to war. Her runes are Mercy and Fairness and Moderation which later inspire Cleardan to invent the compass. Mother god was later believed to have died when the last remaining Device exterminated the gods of the West. However Our World todays considers Mother God to be same transcendental incarnation of Goodly Kindness as seen in a vision by The Buddha.

The Shadow of His Nature later known as The Dark Lord. He evolved literally from the Shadow of Father god of Fire into a increasingly distinct being. Religion in the First and Second Ages believed he misinterpreted the true nature of Father as exclusively chaos, destruction, and war. He tried to seduce the Wild Races away to the forces of evil and did succeed in turning the Ogres toward evil. Later he created Orcs to perpetrate eternal war on Our World. He was responsible for safeguarding the Five Devices so no one could use them because the Devices were created to murder gods. The Dark Lord came to worship The Devices above Father god of Fire himself, seduced by their magnification of the Five Senses. Father god of Fire renounced the Dark Lord and cut him off from his own divinity. In the Second Age The Dark Lord assumed physical life: the most beautiful Elve in the world. His greatest strength was the ability, like any grotesque shadow cast on a wall, to inspire fear and incite the imagination. He used several aliases including Erratumus Banne, Narciss Iconaclastus and Narciss Caitiff. He waged a vendetta against Gildagad whom he blamed for the death of Father god of Fire and his own fall from his Father's grace. He inspired the creations of Rings of Power but became enmeshed in a trap of finite existence: age, decay, and death when his physical Elve body aged. Both his love of the physical world and his fear of decay of his physical body proved to be his only weakness but one that Gildagad ruthlessly exploited. The Dark Lord dwelled in the Fiery Fissure where he kept The Devices and later in the Heart of Darkness where he was ultimately defeated.

Other gods of the First Age were:

The Tengu (demonic predator bird changelings) like Sojobo The Harbinger of War, a hunchback (the hunch being his folded wings) whose feathered fan incited war. Sojobo's proteges were the famous Elvish Clann of Heike defeated at Dannoura and the snake changeling Saburo Agat (sired through the loins of Horsham of Arcadia with the dead Lord Ryu by Lady Aodaisho The White Shake).

Other supernatural creatures were the Oni Demons, Yokai Monsters, and Yurei Ghosts who were all listed in the Kjiki Dictionary of the 100 most wanted demons and routinely swept away in ritual Susuhara pavilion exorcisms ('out with the old oni') by wizards or the likes of Shoki The Demon Queller.

One demon welcomed however was Baku The Eater of [Bad] Dreams who visited nightly to leave one's sleep sweet.

Boggatus was a Bogeyman or demon of ever changing appearance and malice aforethought.

It was a demon which could change it's appearance infinitely but mischievously. Its were considered a petty mischief makers and nuisances rather than evil. Trolls kept Its as pets, considering them humorous but Elves who had a compulsion for neatness found Its exasperating and vexing and maddening which apparently Its found hilarious.

The Dragon Kings were:

White Orochi Of The Waters Of The Deep who sired Raiden (Thunder), Raitaro (Rain), Touo Tama (Dew), and Inari (Lakes) but denied his changeling daughter Lady Aodaisho The White Snake when she eloped with Lord Ryu.

Red Bishamon and his worshipers the Habetrot Weavers (of deadly dreams that come true to the damnation of the wisher)

Black Saruta Hiko who guards the Sacred Maw Abyss of Divinity and Mystery

The Dragon Kings were considered benevolent except for Red Bishamon who was considered the blackest of black Glamour.

The Mer Peoples were changelings of the waters of the world and included: The Mer: Mermaids and Mermen who alternated as humans on land and sea creatures depending on their cycle of spawning. The Mer were reputed to lure sailors or sea Harvesters to their deaths on the rocks or lure them out to their deaths at low tides. The Mer Sea Horses were the infamous Aughiskys who were the fastest horses in the world but would fatally change back into their real forms at the scent of salt. Aughiskys loved meat and often ate their human 'owners'. A Mer Comb and Mirror were powerful but dangerous Glamour, as was a Mer Trident.

The Selkies were seal changelings and the Roane were otter changelings. If netted both would be forced to bestow three blessings or three curses if their skins were held hostage.

The Loireag Weavers were creatures of the fresh waters famous for weaving clothes and talismans of powerful glamour and protection.

The Aine were swan changelings of famously amorous beauty -- if mute for they only sang their own or their lover's dirge.

The Annwn were Lakes Maidens and famous healers who lived under mysterious lakes or behind desolate waterfalls. There were believed to be minor Sidh goddessess. The last known Annwn was the 'She Sidh' of the Lake of the Swanfleet.

The Melusine were water demons who could shape shift from human to monestrous sea serpents. They lived near sea grasses that could strangle the unsuspecting.

Muilean The Storm Hag could morph from an aged crone to sea shark of monestrous size.

The Weavers were Chance and Fate who wove the Tapestry of Destiny, each person's life being but one thread in the weaving. In the Second Age people believed the Weavers only gave each person their threads of life and death to weave their own tapestry of life themselves. The final Tapestry of Destiny was History. Some might be given good threads, some flawed threads, some might be given gold threads, some ugly threads. To cast a Glamour Spell was to weave it. Evil weavers were the Habetrot who wove dreams come true that become your worst nightmare. Good weavers were the Loireag Spinners. Banshees both washed the clothes of the doomed and wove their shrouds. Some evil weavers created talismans from the dyes of mandrakes boiled alive or human blood to allow some to 'separate' their souls from their bodies and potentially live forever but this was considered black glamour.

Supernatural Creatures caused most of the illness of the First Age including:

Akura Living Dream Possession (nowadays mental illness or extreme states of emotion)

Draining Nara Dreams by vampires, banshees, and succubus (consumption)

Bad Luck, mischief, and chance by Kitsunehi Fox Fire created by Fox Gods or Fox Changelings

Gender Mis-alinement by Fox Changelings or Fox Worshipers (now considered genetic)

The Acting Bug by Fox Changelings or Fox Worshipers

Death by Snow by Oni Kigo the Hag and her Snow Panthers (women who died abandoned in the snow who rose from the dead to live by sucking the warmth out of people (now frost bite or exposure or hypothermia)

Gillitrap Confusion (paralyzing obsessive compulsive behavior)

Changeling Shape Shifting was believed to be caused by one of two ways. The First and most fatal was the bite of a rabid changeling which caused bestial madness and finally death. Such a bite was highly contagious. Sometimes this was called Lycanthrope Sickness or Were Disease. Nowadays it is called Rabies or Mental Illness. The Second way was by being the Scion of a changeling. Some changelings were admired (Eagles or Owls), erotic (Swans or Snakes), industrious (Country Folk who were Wolflings), but others were feared (Bears, The Mer). The Scion of Changelings were considered unstable hybrids and feared though many scion like Clan of Heike or the Scion of the Bear display remarkable abilities, possessed second sight or amazing courage, or are geniuses. Today all Were are policed by the secret Thiess Guard --- themselves all Changelings. Uther Dragon, the Pater of the Royal Family of Our World, was a Werewolf.

Other illnesses, bad luck, or misfortune was believed caused by violation of Geasas or Taboos or Oaths that became Transmutation Curses of deadly potency.

Other illnesses might be caused by Glamour (magic). Good Glamour was 'green' but black glamour was considered dangerous.

Other illnesses, especially Battlefield Illnesses such as infections, campsite contagions, or gangrene was believed to be caused by Banshees (ghosts who wash the clothes of the living to curse them toward their deaths) or the Sluagh Dead (the dead who refuse to die), the bite of a Sluagh Cat (baby who died abused), a Sluagh Dog (a coward who died running away from battle), a Sluagh Horse (monster which ate the flesh and carnage of the battlefield and therefore ate the flesh of looters of the dead). The Sluagh were also believed to result from the denial of Excarnation (death rites and rituals). The Elves considered the Beorach Mere Mortals to be especially vile for they routinely defiled the fallen dead to deny them Excarnation (the ghosts being doomed to haunt the battlefield then and denied paradise).

Blood poisoning was believed to be caused by the bite of an Orc.

Excessive hairiness (combined with large or beefy bodies) was believed to show parentage by Trolls though this was not considered bad per say. Trolls were seen as good family folk (if peculiar), warm hearted, and loyal. The belief that trolls were transformed by daylight originated in certain skin diseases and skin cancers in very fair peoples.

Birth Defeats were considered the sign of black glamour, a violated taboo, being sired by demons, being a changeling, or being a doppelganger ( the fake double left behind by demons who kidnaped the real child away). Birth Defeats in the First Age resulted in the child usually being abandoned to die in the wilderness. In the Second Age this was declared illegal and handicaps were declared 'free from supernatural taint'.

Ugliness was considered evil in the First Age and was listed on the Vice List along with clutter, messiness, greed, rudeness, shabbiness, dirt, boorishness, and any sort of excessive behavior. Virtues included hospitality, generosity, genteel behavior, neatness, cleanliness, privacy of another's space, moderation, and romantic sensitivity. The First Age was a Shame based Society and Mortality had nothing to do with virtues or vices. Appearance was everything.

A Flaw in the Appearance might be seen as evidence of being a changeling, a doppelganger, supernatural parentage, being a double or co-walker or demon (all who usually betrayed themselves by failing in their mimicking of humanity by some tiny or glaring flaw). If a twin died the surviving twin was feared for it was believed the dead twin would haunt the living twin. The Princess Luna of Arcadia was born with the wraith of her still born identical twin wrapped around her body. The dead still born haunted her for decades, growing as she grew, sucking her shadow each night, envious of her life and determined to replace her in the land of the living.

Beauty was seen as evidence of moral and spiritual goodness and soulfulness ('Beauty is Truth and Truth is Beauty'). A flaw in an otherwise beautiful or handsome person might be interpreted as:

Yuugen: the flaw that heightens the beauty with poignancy or tragic beauty like the 'wishfullness of twilight', 'the beautiful sorrow of wisteria',' the fragile beauty of the snow of cherry blossoms of the spring', the 'first ragged basho willow leaf of autumn', or the 'last rose of summer'. Mere callow teenaged beauty was not valued, having no melancholy.

Erikakii: the flaw that fatally mars the beauty in a way that ruins it forever and renders it beyond the pale of forgiveness or acceptance. In the Second Age ugly babies were frequently called 'Erik'.

Wabi is the flaw in the heart or soul or mind that fatally undoes a person. Lady Wisteria Fujitsu later reinterpreted Wabi as the beauty of Tragedy if the flaw could also be seen as a virtue as well as a weakness which undoes the person with tragic but heroic calamity. To discover one's own Wabi and greet it with quiet dignity in the face of ruin and calamity was considered Mingmu (clear eyed heroism in the face of doom brought about by one's own mistakes). Maeve Valor is clear eyed heroism in the face of doom brought about by destiny outside oneself.


One of only three known examples of the most famous metal of valor ever issued: the Grey Owl Campaign Metals issued by Rufus Royal. Most solders who received a metal from Rufus Royal died wearing them. All three known examples were looted from graves in the 3rd Age. In comparison a metal given by Rhingol the Great was often scratched with a curse and hung in the Sacred Grove to damn the Royal Family of Old Arcadia --- especially Ben the Beorach, the son in law of Rhingol.

The Celebros Alphabet would replace most runes but even today a knowledge of 1st Age runes shows education and good taste.

The West Face of the Old Citadel carved out of solid granite and gem incrusted. The facade is restored by the Old Citadel is still closed today because of lethal Mithril Mine poisoning, the downfall of the Dwarves.

The Races of Our World: The Usual List of Racial Suspects.

The Elves were the first Race created by the Gods of The West to inhabit Our World. When they ran riot over the land Father god of Fire created Dwarves to rein them in through war. But Mother god of Water negotiated a truce between the two races through prejudice and scorn continued to exist between them. Later The Elves wrote much religious propaganda to persuade The Mere Mortals that The Elvish Race was the superior race and The Dwarve Race was the inferior race in order to justify their own exploitation of The Mere Moral Races. Mere Mortal prejudice against anything Dwarvish lingers even to day in Our World. That it still exists is our fault but the architect of the prejudice were The Elves.

The Dwarves lived first in the Old Citadel, The New Citadel, and later after a string of military defeats the Last Citadel plus other lessor sites. In appearance they were short (no more than five feet tall) which nowadays is short. But people forget that while the Celestial and Twilight Elves and Beorach Mere Mortals averaged between six feet and six foot six in height, most races and tribes inclined to only five foot three and later five foot six during the First and Second Ages. So in fact during their own time Dwarves were not that short! They also inclined to hairiness which was unusual and a fair but freckled complexion, thick wiry red hair, stoutness, and nearsighted hazel or brown eyes. At four foot six (in boots with lifts) Durham the Deathless was unusually short.

They preferred to live in towns and cities and prided themselves on their ability to think logically, precisely, scientifically. They excelled in Math, Economics & Commence (which everyone else called Dwarve magic), engineering, construction, and metallurgy. Their greatest king was Durham the Deathless who invented the process to make steel in mass quantity and well as quality. Durham the Deathless was the mentor of Gildagad, the greatest king of Our World in it's Ancient and Classical Ages. When Durham choose to depart out of history his successor challenged Gildagad's authority to rule all the races of Our World demanding the right to again rule as King of all the Dwarves. Gildagad broke him and shattered the unity of The Dwarves in the process. Nevertheless most Dwarves continued to obey Gildagad to the point of worship. The Dwarves were at the crest of their prosperity under Gildagad who shared their view of the world. This caused many of his own race to accuse Gildagad was favoring The Dwarves and deliberately undermining his own race. Many Celestial Elvish books label Gildagad "The Traitor to His Race" and after his death Gildagad become ensnared in the general prejudice against Dwarves. Dwarves as a pure race went extinct during the Fourth Age through genetic tests reveal their genes everywhere. In the 4th Age all things Dwarvish have become popular as Economics and the other Sciences triumphed over the Arts and Humanities which had been favored by the Elves.

Because The Elves were the Elder Race or First Race to inhabit Our World they claimed divine parentage and special status over all later 'inferior' races. They also claimed special status because of their remarkable beauty and physical abilities. Their physical abilities were real but later exaggerated like the claim they were immortal when they merely lived (if not faced by war or disease) on average five or six thousand years. The Dwarves also lived unusually long lives (usually two or three thousand years) and had many special physical abilities too. Nevertheless The Elves despised The Dwarves as their inferiors in part because they saw them as ugly. Ironically The Dwarves saw The Elves as ugly. To each his own. Alas both races prized beauty as the supreme moral principle but they defined beauty differently. Both races also shared a love of caves howbeit for different purposes and skill in metallurgy and construction. While Elves often displayed an arrogance based in their assumed superiority, The Dwarves appeared to suffer from a inferiority complex that manifested itself in aggressive, greedy demands to be essential. This they did by hoarding wealth, technology and guildhall secrets. During the Third Age ie The Dark Ages much knowledge was lost because The Dwarves monopolized the knowledge themselves rather than sharing it with the other Races. Ironically Elves also hoarded wealth and secrets but Mere Mortals never accused them of hoarding for they did not want what The Elves hoarded. But civilization needed what The Dwarves hoarded.

The tragedy of The Elves was when Father god of Fire created first Time, Change, Death, and then Competition, Strife and War. It proved to be one trinity too many. Mother god of Water objected to the creation of War and appealed to The gods of the West to intercede to moderate Father. Instead they decided to drastically interfere in the situation and sent out a Call to The Elves to come West into their embrace in Paradise. Only The Celestial Elves, originally called the 'Golden Elves' or 'Blond Elves' and later called the 'Lost Elves', heeded the Call of the gods of the West and abandoned Our World. But the other races of Elves choose to stay and reconcile their fear of death with their love of Our World. Mother god of Water negociated a temporary truce to War herself. But The Call of the gods set in motion a cascading tragedy than finally engulfed all The Elves and even Our World

The Elves Races who stayed are the following:

The Terra Twilight Elves who were the vast majority of the population of the Elves and the dominate Race on Our World during the First Age and part of the Second Age. The term 'Twilight' was coined by Celestial Elves as a derogatory insult to their failure to heed the Call of the gods of the West and their supposedly dark and ignorant mind set. The first historians were all Celestial so history inherited the term and now is stuck with it. The Terra Twilight actually called themselves "The Civilized People' and the "People in the Center" and "The Genteel People". Mere Mortals often called them the 'Green Peoples' and later the 'Gentry' or the 'Fairies' They loved music and dance and enjoying life. They worshiped Mother god of Water and practiced moderation and cleanliness as the highest virtues. They invented soap and hygiene and also food preservation climaxing in Ice Houses to preserve food in an hygienic environment, especially ice cream which they both invented and loved. They excelled in bronze metallurgy and even The Dwarves admired their skill in 'lost wax' sculpture. They derived great income from wool exportation which was replacing fur from wild animals as the prize commodity by the Sea Traders from other continents visiting The Havens. When they migrated into Our World they seized the best land and caves. Their income from cheese and honey (then the only source of sugar for Our World) and dried and preserved fruit also brought much wealth. When the Mere Mortals started to migrate into Our World many chose to live as tenant farmers under The Terra Twilight Elves. All the records show their benign treatment of Mere Mortal Races except for the Beorach which The Terra Twilight viewed as too aggressive and uncontrollable which they saw as rude and The Maleth who migrated as hunters and gatherers and herders like The Dark Elves. The Twilight viewed settlement and ownership of the land as 'civilized' and migration as 'barbaric'. However their response to people they did not like was not kill them. Rather they simply encouraged 'un-genteel people' to continue to migrate.

The Terra Twilight Elves were the tallest of all the Elves, silver blond, grey eyed, and formed three groups. One group under King Rhingol the Great ( he gave himself the name in honor of his total inaction in the face of the Call of the gods) settled with the bulk of The Twilight Elves in Arcadia, later New Arcadia, The Lake District (beside ice cream they loved fishing) and later Twilight Forest. A second group heeded the Call of the gods and migrated to the Coastline where Mother god of Water warned them not to proceed, not to abandon Our World, and not to embrace 'dangerous gods'. Most heeded her and settled along the Coast in a general settlement that moved often but always clung to the water and was always known as The Havens. This group of salt water fishing Ocean Twilight lived under the guidance of Cleardan The Master of The Havens who became the Beloved of Mother god of Water. A few, The Far Fishing Sea Elves, did migrate further West to an island just in view of Paradise but just out of reach of its dangerous influence later known as Terra Nova by the Beorach Mere Mortals who later took it over and slaughtered the few surviving Twilight Sea Elves which the Celestial Elves did not already slaughter on their escape from Paradise back to Our World. The island later known as Terra Nova was then wild and undeveloped and under resourced. At the time of their migration the Far Fishing Twilight Elves were hunters gatherers fishermen. Once settled they became isolated and their tribe stayed fairly primitive in terms of technology. In some respects they even regressed back for they brought no metallurgy with them so as their supply of metal was consumed, they reverted to bone and stone, the land being inhospitable to advancement.

The Celestial Elves always viewed the Terra and Ocean Twilight as intellectually inferior, lazy, and immoral. The majority in the Ancient Age were illiterate or semi-illiterate but the elite could read and write and all displayed a flare for fishing, sailing, making ships (both lake, river, and ocean going), and commercial farming without the need for slaves or serfs. The Twilight abhorred slavery and exploitation of weaker or 'inferior' races . They practiced a loose form of constitutional monarchy. Rhingol the Great ( at least when he was sane) listened to both his Merrach Mere Mortal Mayors, the Elite 100 of his court, and the Elite 1000 of the High Street of Arcadia City. Cleardan created the Steering Committee of Navigators to advise him as the Master of The Havans that included people picked by each of the diverse races, tribes, fishing villages, and districts of the town to advice him. This later evolved into the format of democratic government created by Gildagad that still is the chief claim to fame by Our World. However at the time it was view with contempt by The Celestial Elves and later by the Beorach of Terra Nova as weak. Both Rhingol and Cleardan were accused as being too stupid to rule if they required democratic advice from everyone around them. The Twilight used democratic government as an alternative to warfare both on an internal scale and on an external scale. They preferred to negociate wherever possible. It did help them handle influxes of other races and tribes not related to them in a peaceable way allowing them to expand beyond blood clans into the first city states of Our World. However when confronted by The Shadow of His Nature and his army of Orcs, Amberlings, professional soldiers for hire and criminals who did not want peace, Twilight proved to be good soldiers ---- once their backs were to the ocean. Again The Celestial and Beorach saw this as cowardly.

In time The Twilight came to abhor the gods of The West as evil gods whose Call was a siren song of ruin which they narrowly avoided through Mother god of Water's good grace and their own king's glorious inaction (he was too busy falling in love to bother to migrate). Once you make a decision you later will always justify it as the right one. They also came to doubt all the stories told to them by The Celestial Elves especially the tales of going to Paradise and being innocent of the slaughter of the Far Fishing Elves. The most famous Twilight Elve, and the very last Twilight, was Celebeau who married Gloriana of the Celestial Elves. It was not a happy marriage. Gloriana blamed it on Celebeau's 'typical Twilight stupidity'. The Twilight went extinct early in the Fourth Age but their genes still occasionally reappear, especially in the Royal Family of Astel (though Maestusean Elve genes still dominate the Royal Family). However, Elven genes usually are recessive.

The Dark Elves were the next tribe in size and importance. They actually were the first tribe of Elves to migrate west. They were dark haired and smaller in statue than all the other Elves. They lived in a loose confederation of clans each of which was lead by a 'Big Man or Woman' The confederation had no king or queen but they later recognized Gildagad as their King after they became persecuted They choose to outlaw 'War' and solved all disputes by sitting down and listing all possible relatives until they found one both disputing parties shared as a common relative. They lived in bowers in the grasslands and in flets or tree houses in the forest. Twice a year they would assemble at 'Rendevous Time' to exchange news, trade, and find mates. They formed temporary bonds only that could be renewed or dissolved from rendevous to rendevous. Children moved about at will within the clan. Adoption of outsiders was taboo. Gildagad's adoption was the exception to the rule. They were bi-sexual.

They heard the Call of the gods of the West and always considered it a 'Call of Evil Ones' and ignored it totally. They worshiped their own gods (generally the Firbolgs and also anthropomorphic gods of stone and tree and lighting etc) with the sacrifice of art and often created and then burned or abandoned magnificent totems and masks. Each clan possessed clan fetishes of striking beauty. They feared anything they saw as 'outside'. They had no social mechanism to cope with outside aggression but responded by running away rather than fighting.

They especially loved to roam free through forest and woodland migrating at will as the seasons of Nature dictated. That is to say they were hunter gathers. Later the other tribes of The Elves came to despise them as a barbaric tribe for refusing to settle down and build houses and live as 'civilized people' should. They continued to be a stone age people long after other races and tribes developed copper, then bronze, then iron, then steel. Only when they started to associate with The Mere Mortal Race of Maleth did they even start to herd goats and moor ponies and use the bow and arrow. The result was predictable: they were driven off the best land and into worse and worse areas of Our World. Gildagad was their only patron and protector. He collected a great deal of their fetish and totem art and even allowed himself to be tattooed by them. However general appreciation of Dark Elve Art did not occur until well into the Fifth Age when Gildagad's collection again went on display at The Havens Museum of Anthropology. They were the first Elve race to intermarry into the Mere Mortals and apparently vanished off the face of Our World (through genetic tests show most modern day descendants of Maleth carry Dark Elve genes). Many advocates of the 'Racial/Genetic' Theory of history always pin their case on the apparently sorry example of Dark Elve's failure to advance beyond the simplest things as indicative of innate racial defects that stopped them from 'advancing'.

The Green Elves were the smallest tribe. They were actually the second tribe to migrate west. They were flaxen haired, slender, and of middle height. They inclined to forests and a semi migrating way of life and communal living within an loosely interconnected federation of blood clans. Each loose clan was headed by the local 'Big Man' who lead by personal appeal but otherwise enjoyed no special perks of the job and could not give the job to their children. They were initially more sophisticated hunter gatherers than The Dark Elves but later apparently regressed back to a even more simple lifestyle that did not even include herding or horses and the use of only what metal they received in trade for fur, meat, leather, and mushrooms. 'The Regression' has since been the favorite topic of discussion among historians of Our World.

Their greatest strength was a tolerance for people who deviated from the norm, be it handicap, birth, or mental peculiarity in a time when such things were viewed as ugly and therefore evil and dealt with by abandonment or murder. Their greatest weakness was their apparently disorganized and quicksilver personality that caused them to appear to be undisciplined and emotional in the face of events that demanded discipline and practicality. They also practiced social adoption of non Green orphans, refugees and drifters from other races and tribes into their own confederation of clans through a ritual of exchanging blood and the magic of the 'Tattoo'. They also 'adopted' people of 'distinctive' qualities that revealed they were 'touched by the gods' In the Second Age they adopted many Twilight Elves after Arcadia fell led a Twilight Elve called Lycanthros who was in fact mentally ill, what today we call 'shell shock' or 'delayed trauma' resulting from the destruction of Arcadia. Lycanthros lead the Green Elves into a disastrous detour into communal isolation and anti technology that stilted their development allowing other tribes and races to progress beyond them. Today some call it 'The Hippy' or 'Peter Pan' Syndrome. Many historians, including myself, have always placed the cause of 'The Regression' directly on the holly crowned head of 'The Mad King of the Green'.

In the Second Age Gildagad resettled The Green east in Greenwood Forest to allow their migrating and communal land ownership lifestyle to continue, howbeit confined in a large geographic area and hedged with caveats. He also encouraged the loosely structured confederation of clans to nominate a 'Big Man among Big Men' to represent the entire confederation for all business dealings, legal suits, tax collection, and to produce a Navigator to represent The Green back at The Steering Committee. Being an administrator Gildagad needed a single person to deal with practical things and he created a position when the The Green could not. Creating puppet kings or regional administrators is a typical bureaucratic technique. Lycanthros' son Magnanus became the 'Big Man among Big Men' and he tried to mitigate the madness of his father, alas to little avail. Caught between his father's raving vision of pastoral utopia and Gildagad's bureaucratic demands, Magnanus later suffered many bouts of ill health forcing his own son Tacitus to become Navigator and Administrator, and later as he put it himself, "Care Taker of the Senile" ie The Green. Tacitus was especially scarred by the situation.

During the Second Our World War Lycanthros lead the Pride of the Green into a disastrous mob charge on the battlefield which sucked in Magnanus and resulted in the death or maiming of the best of the Green. The tribe never recovered. Tacitus' refusal to join the debacle caused a permanent estrangement between him and his father. He found himself viewed as a coward for a refusal to join a suicidal charge. It is believed that Tacitus later sailed West with a Device to annihilate The gods of the West. After his abandonment of them, and also because of previous, bloody fights with Northern Barbarian Raiders armed with metal weapons, armor and horses The Green Elves died out early in the peaceable Fourth Age as the Maleth Mere Mortals took over their forests in their drive to modernization. Up to that point The Maleth had also practiced a migrating lifestyle of hunting, gathering, herding, and semi agricultural gardens and crude grain fields. But after being blooded by barbarians they seized the entire 'Migrating Region' created by Gildagad for free ranging peoples and portioned it off to each member of the tribe and settled down on farms, villages, and towns that they requested King Astel construct for them in the 'civilized matter of the West'. This was the coup de grace of The Green. The last 'Wild Green Man' named 'Yew Tree' was found alone, sick, and hiding in the Public Forest Reserves by Rangers and captured in the year 35. He lived for eight years in a little room off the Museum of Anthropology at The Havens University displaying his primitive stone age skills to the public as a living scientific specimen until his death from influenza.

The Celestial Elves (The Golden or Blond Elves) migrated West into the embrace of the gods of the West and dwelled in Paradise -- or so they claimed. The Twilight Elves doubted this story as being totally illogical. If you live in Paradise, why would you ever want to leave? For whatever reason, The Celestial Elves did return from what ever place, to Our World after five centuries. and The Twilight Elves tried to embrace them as the Lost People returned safely home. However The Celestial Elves now claimed a new name worthy of their semi- divine position and displayed much arrogance toward all other Elves they perceived to be their inferiors. They lied to, ridiculed, patronized, and manipulated Rhingol the Great and ignored Cleardan altogether. They seized The Westlands just north of the Coastal Western coastline traditional considered part of The Havens and brawled with Twilight living there. When The Twilight refused to budge, The Celestial then seized more and more land eastward toward the north and west of Arcadia infringing on land traditionally held by Rhingol the Great and driving The Dark Elves into the Wastelands and rocky Forestlands claimed by Gildagad who was allied with Cleardan. The Dark Elves were not warrior people but Gildagad was and he blooded the Celestial right back when they tried to push into his territory. The Celestial also had violent altercations with the many clans of The Green causing then to form a loose confederation allied with Gildagad in order to fend off the pressures of both Celestial and Orc intrusion into their ancestral forests. Gildagad displayed an ability to unite peoples the Celestial alienated.

The Celestial Wars had broken out at about the same time Celestial Elves returned and The Twilight Elves came to blame the Celestial Elves for starting the 'Celestial Wars' themselves. Their leader Maestus the Damned was certainly implicated. His invention, Iron, appeared first on Our World as the weapon of choice of the Orc resulting in disastrous military defeats by The Twilight Elves who only weld bronze weapons. Once he acquired a sample of the new metal 'Iron' Durham the Deathless of the Dwarves quickly discovered a way to first manufacture Iron and then went one step further and invented Steel which restored a military advantage to the Allies against the Orcs. Nevertheless Our World saw a protracted war and ultimately a stalemate between the forces of The Shadow of His Nature and the Allied Races.

After being blooded themselves by Orcs and each other, the remaining Celestial Elves decided to pally with everyone they alienated to form a Alliance of Allies to battle The Shadow of His Nature and his army of Orcs, Amberlings, soldiers for hire, and criminals. They seized the command by promising 'Victory before the Solstice!' but instead The Celestial Elves under King Finngolden, son of Finn and his son Finngold (Gildagad's father) led the Allied Races into a quagmire. Their military blundering and arrogance alienated the other races and the Allied Front collapsed into bickering between tribe and race. The result was a series of defeats that ultimately drove all the tribes and races to the brink of destruction. At The Havens they literally fought with their backs to the sea. Gildagad later seized the command just as he later seized the crown of the Celestial and far more capably united the Allies to wage a winnable war.

Most non Celestial Historians now acknowledge that the Sidh actually caused the 'Celestial Wars' when they refused Father god's gift of Time, Change, and Death but place the blame for 1000 years of military defeats almost totally on the Celestial leadership, especially in their refusal to listen to Durham the Deathless for any military advice despite his clear superiority in logistics, weaponry, siege engineering, and practical deployment. The Celestial Elves saw war as a grand parade of armies and a series of personal duels between glamorous 'heros' rather than a clash of armies grounded on a sound economic war machine ie the 'Home Front'. This persistent exercise of obsolete warfare along with repeated and pointless attacks at the Fiery Fissure Fortress which had no military value whatsoever doom the Allied Cause until the most famous Celestial Elve, Gildagad finally abandoned that style of war in order to embrace a new style of warfare based on the use of a disciplined army supplied and supported by industry by a unified Home Front advocated by Durham the Deathless. During the war Gildagad was the second in command under Durham who mastermind the ultimate victory for the Allies. However after the war Durham acknowledged Gildagad to be the supreme king: the King of All of Our World. Durham the Deathless put Gildagad on the throne and many historians later considered Gildagad to be only the 'leg man' to the 'Genius of the Citadel' causing later historians to try to call the 'Classical Age' the 'Empire of Durham' rather than the 'Empire of Gildagad'. But the correspondence of Durham the Deathless clearly states that Gildagad was the King of Our World for a very clear reason: he earned it and deserved the title.

The Celestial Elves formed several tribes when they reappeared on Our World. Apparently they all hated each other but never completely explained the cause of the feud because that might force them to come clean about why they 'left paradise' and who exactly killed the Far Fishing Twilight Elves whose bodies washed up for months along the coastline of The Havens.

The Maestuseans or Damned Elves or Fallen Elves under their patriarch Maestus the Damned first ruled 'beyond The Pale in the northeast Highlands where they were driven by everyone else. No one wanted the Highlands. Not even the Orcs. Maestus was a genius equal to Durham the Deathless (even Durham admitted it) and he invented the first process of Iron Smithing. He also invented modern writing based on the use of the alphabet rather than pictorial symbolizations employed by The Twilight. Everyone hated Maestus but everyone adopted the Celebros adoption of his alphabet which is still used today. Maestus also created beautiful art, jewelry, crafts, and especially The Five Devices which were weapons of cosmic power designed after the Five Senses which they apparently magnified. The Five Devices were: the Star Sapphire of Sight, the Pearl of Smell, The Ruby of Taste, the Diamond of Hearing, and the Emerald of Touch. The Five Devices and the creation of weapons of iron prompted their theft by Father god of Fire who feared the escalation of war their invention meant. But instead of damping down the escalation of war, the forcible disarmament incited the return of The Celestial to Our World. The gods of the West damned Maestus for the creation of The Five Devices which were capable of killing even a god. Father god of Fire seized them and locked them away in The Fiery Fissure to prevent anyone using them.. It has since been endlessly debated why Maestus choose to create a weapon capable of killing a god and then expressed surprise when the gods decided to take it personally. Very personally.

Maestus also did not get on with his stepmother Tara the Fair whom he apparently murdered at sea, hurling her overboard into the stormy water with the now famous, or infamous blood curse "May I and all my descendants be damned for what I do this day!" Maestus apparently did not get on with anybody for he is also supposed to have ordered the slaughter of the Far Fishing Twilight Elves. It is true he and his were occupying their fishing boats when The Celestial Elves came ashore. When Cleardan traveled up from The Havens to verify if the boats belonged to elves presently washing ashore hacked to death by weapons, Maestus set fire to the evidence.

Maestus died the first year on his return to Our World of a plague (probably cholera from the bad sanitation at the campsite) and his sons succeeded him. The most famous, or infamous, were Vendus and Ruedus who engaged in increasingly horrifying crimes against humanity. Their red haired descendants were persecuted as evil incarnate well into the Second Age but lived long after the other Elves vanished off the face of Our World. Today the bloodlines of many Mere Mortals, especially The Beorach possess Maestusean genes. Later in the Second Age the largest population of Maestuseans moved into the ruins of Utopia as outlaws. Others drifted about Our World as circus and gypsy wanderers, hated, hounded, persecuted, denied all legal rights accorded other people living on Our World, and driven into petty or grand crime. The greatest of The Celestial Elves who lived like gods in Paradise ended up as diseased and drunken beggars, drifters, con men, and criminals. The self-righteous golden haired half kin to the red hair kin of Maestus made very sure of that.

Ironically in the second half of the Second Age the Maestuseans rebounded. Utopia experienced two gold rushes that made the beleaguered outlaws rich enough to retire from crime. Gildagad, who had promised them amnesty if they fought for him at the end of the First Age, (the Twilight and Celestial forced him to renege on his promise) indirectly made good on his vow by trying to legally revoke the infamous 'Hate Laws' against Maestuseans, published new revisionist histories exposing Celestial lies, and married key players of the Royal Family of Astel into the Royal Family of Strathclyde in Utopia as well as the Family of the First Marshal (Angus) and Second Marshal (Uther Dragon). By the end of the Second Age Maestusean blood dominated much of the Royal Family of Astel and in the first decade of the Third Age the Maestuseans tried valiantly to save the Lake District from being overrun by barbarians when the Northern Wall of Gildagad was breached. Through out the Third Age the Maestuseans fought for Our World despite not being wanted by Our World. Today the Royal Family of Astel is genetically identical to the ruling families of Utopia and in all but name is Maestusean. The disinherited and persecuted again rule as the top of the heap. Their vindictive kin, the Celestial Elves, on the other hand are virtually vanished off the face of Our World.

The golden haired Celestial Elves under Finngolden, son of Finn and Tara the Fair, ruled like gods in the Westlands after driving out the Dark Elves. On the death of his father Finn, Finngolden declared himself the 'Second King of all the Celestial Elves' even through this disinherited Maestus who was Finn's eldest son sired by Cinnabar. Finngolden and his mother Tara the Fair justified it be declaring Cinnabar a non Elve prostitute and Maestus a hybrid bastard. The golden haired, pure blooded Celestial Elves launched a campaign to drive their red haired half brothers beyond the Pale into the Highlands as criminals. To this end they entirely blamed them for the murder of the Far Fishing Twilight Elves and also for the murder of Tara the Fair and indirectly for the murder of Finn the "First King of all the Celestial Elves'. The zeal of the Celestial to write history seems to have started when they wrote the first of many versions of 'The Exodus' to besmirch the Maestuseans and cleanse themselves of any connection to the mass murder of the Far Fishing Elves. They proved master manipulators of the facts but also splendid writers of fiction so Our World is even today reluctant to give up the famous Celestial histories despite their dubious factional discrepancies that led directly to the now infamous 'Protocols of Maestus' and the 'Hate Laws'.

Finngolden's eldest son, Fingold, ruled Finn-lomin in the Westlands . He sired but abandoned Gildagad (apparently in favor of a third wife and their blond son, and out of belief that Gildagad was illegitimate). On the death of Finngolden, Finngold became the 'Third King of all the Celestial Elves'. Under him the golden haired Celestial employed huge armies of Beorach and owned huge estates of Merrach serfs. Unlike the Twilight, the Celestial exploited Mere Mortals ruthlessly. They created a rigid city state toped by a kleptocracy: absolute king, layers of bureaucrats, scribes, artists, propagandists, and religious priests whose sole job was finding religious reasons to justify the kleptocracy. The Twilight complained that the Celestial never won the war but war was a profit making machine for the Celestial in terms of slaves and loot. War can be, at least when you are winning, a very profit making machine. The Twilight, being a 'stupid' people never understood that.

Fingolden's second son was Tungold who created the secret city of Utopia for the gold haired Celestial after the Tun-lomin in the Westlands fell to Orc attack and war ceased being a profit making machine and instead became dangerous. He dwelled in splendid isolation with his sister Tungolda and her son Vulpine (sired by a Dwarve) and his daughter Aureana who later eloped with a Merrach Mere Mortal called Tom to The Havens. Their child Tundungold later had a city named after him which was ironic for he loved boats and the city was inland in the South.

Finngolden's younger brother and sister were the 'Golden Twins' Ringold and Gloriana. It is believed they were sired by Tara the Fair with an Elve other than Finn who was then estranged from Tara the Fair because of her cruel behavior as a Stepmother to Maestus. They were the only golden haired Celestial Elves to come prepared to Our World, to be exact they came with the biggest cache of riches Our World ever saw in the First Age. Once safely settled the twins bought their way into the kingdom of Goldenthrond and from there the purchase of a pedigreed husband from the elite of The Twilight Elves: Celebeau, the eldest male relative to Rhingol the Great (whose daughter eloped with Ben the Beorach). Goldenthrond fell during a series of battles with Orc forces because of incompetence, mismanagement, and arrogance. Gildagad recovered it and then claimed it as part of The Havens. But after Omar of Cadbury's death the whole area fell along with Arcadia resulting in an mass exodus of refugees to The Havens. Gildagad could only salvage the situation by holding onto the western Heartlands when the Eastern Heartlands fell and later Arcadia.

In the Second Age the remaining golden haired Celestial who did not migrate back to Paradise settled in Rainbowdale. It was, alas, rather too close to their hated kin the red haired Maestusean outlaws of Utopia, and being an alpine valley, always snowed up which was both secure but also isolationistic. The Celestial lost their armies in the First Age and their serfs in the Second Age. Gildagad opposed slavery and serfdom and outlawed both during his rule. The loss of their serfs economically ruined the Celestial. They blamed Gildagad for being a 'Traitor to his Race' and accused him of persecuting his own kin and kind to curry favor of the hated Dwarves and the despised Twilight. They languished a backwater until blooded by barbarians in the Third Age and abandoned the place altogether when the Maestuseans started to move in and take it over. They abandoned Our World entirely in the beginning of the Fourth Age. Few genes of the golden haired Celestial can be found in the gene pool of Our World today. Apparently the golden haired Celestial, unlike their red haired counterparts the Maestuseans, despised interbreeding as 'mongrelism'.

The Mere Mortals included several tribes who migrated in waves from the north, east, and south into Our World during the First and Second Ages and served as serfs and warriors under The Celestial, as genteelly tolerated tenent farmers under The Twilight, and as citizens of Our World under Gildagad..

The Maleth are dark haired, matriarchal, lead by a Queen ( the Maleth Royal family is the oldest royal family in Our World), whose eldest daughter even today is traditionally the Navigator in the Steering Committee. They also include a racially different subgroup: The Puki. Subgroups usually represent conquest but in this case it was spontaneous tribal adoption of another tribe in the face of war and mutual threat. The Dark Elves and Maleth initially shared a hunting gathering lifestyle and so coexisted and intermarried to the Maleth's benefit. The Maleth proved more adaptable than the Dark Elves and learned to herd goats, moor ponies, and sow a crude grain which represented a semi agricultural improvement on their migrating lifestyle. They also adopted bows and arrows after seeing the Green use them. Their adaptability continues today and they are still a very successful race, though still resolutely matriarchal.

In the Second Age they settled in the River Valley of the Mighty Majestic which Gildagad established as a 'Free Ranging Region' for Migrating Peoples. They did not forsake their migrating, communal lifestyle until the Fourth Age. Yet they developed an economic interdependence with the Dwarves of the Citadels, supplying the highly urbanized centers with fresh milk, vegetables, wild berries, fresh bread, and meat as well as serving as gardeners in the cast iron greenhouses of the richest Dwarves. Despite their adaptability in terms of new technology and new economic markets The Maleth appeared reluctant to give up their communal view of sharing the land rather than owning the land. They migrated north in the summer and south in the winter always roughly opposite the New Citadel and the Old Citadel and lived in bowers on stone circular foundations. Yet the campsites included winter and summer stone bath houses, tithe barns, ice houses, grinding stones, huge stone ovens, and Great Halls built and maintained by the Dwarves.

Barbarian invasions during the Third Age required walled and defensible towns and that cut the last string to 'shared land' ethics . They converted to a more 'practical lifestyle' with much nostalgic regret. They pushed out the Green to no regret at all. By the end of the Fourth Age they took over both the River Valley, Greenwood, and The Highlands. Today the only signs of their migrating past is a shared summer obsession for 'caravanning' and camping out. Fortunately King Astel set aside a great deal of communal park land from the Highlands through to Greenwood so public campsites and park grounds are plentiful.

The Merrach are a flaxen haired, ruddy skinned, stout people that migrated out shortly after the Maleth and settled under the patronage of The Twilght, renting land from the 'Gentry' to form tight village clans with individual farms radiating out of the central village. Merrach villages always included a communal tithe barn, pub, and commons. They are credited with the invention of the Mayor, City Council, and most importantly Trial by Jury by ones Common Peers. Though illiterate they introduced many legal concepts into Common Law as we know it today on Our World. Gildagad later freely admired and credited The Merrach for their many legal improvements over the previous Elven legal system which was based on either serfdom (Celestial) or a benign class system ( Twilight). Because they operated as a group unit they were viewed as inferior soldiers by The Celestial but they made better law abiding citizens. Gildagad continued their retraining from unsuccessful in your face soldiers into archers and slingers and then they became the core of his militia army. The Celestial exploited them as serfs but The Twilght disapproved of this. Gildagad considered The Merrach his best and most stable citizens and best soldiers. They historically inhabited the Heartlands. Later King Astel continued to prefer them by siding with them in their claim of 'Historical Return' to the Heartland at the start of the Fourth Age over the most recent inhabitants The New People. The Merrach were always the best tax payers and most peaceful of people -- as long as no one infringed on their 'legal rights'. Ironically the most famous Merrach is the First Age outlaw Horsham who rioted about his village until thrown out, became a famous battle hero for Arcadia and later Goldenthrond, then turned spy and outlaw until caught and hanged by the citizens of his own childhood village. Another famous Merrach is Tom the Merrach who married Aureana of Celestial Utopia to her father Tungold's horror. Tom's tenure as Mayor of The Havens rivaled Cleardan and Gildagad -- with their blessing.

The Beorach came from the north and were the most aggressive of the Mere Mortals to migrate into Our World. They are the very tallest of the Mere Mortals, dark haired, grey eyed, and 'lean and mean' as others tend to describe them. Their ability to fight made them prized as soldiers by The Celestial who drafted them into huge armies to wage their wars against their enemies. Later they turned the tables on their prior owners and became notorious mercenaries fighting on both sides for gold. Their extreme individualism (and corresponding extreme modesty and need for privacy) initially made them unable to even form clans, much less tribes or states or nations on their own. Honor and Shame dominated their code of behavior. The Beorach inclined toward brazenly establishing lonely individual farms where the males herded cattle and waged war while the women persevered in lonely and often harsh and dangerous conditions as squatters. The illegal and lonely farms were invariably cut out from territories traditionally owned by others like The Dark Elves and The Maleth who migrated from campsite to campsite sowing wild barley and wheat, expecting to return to a crude harvest only to find a illegal homestead behind fences when they migrated back. The story was repeated on the Commons lands owned by whole villages of Merrach, and the huge open sheep fields of the ancestral estates of Twilight gentry. So the Beorach caused much friction with their extreme individuality and aggressive defiance of rules, their putting up of shanties and cutting down of trees and erection of rickety fences on the wide open fields that nevertheless belonged to others. What made them such good warriors in war also made them a collective pain in the neck in peace. The famous motto of the Beorach needless to say is still 'Do whatever you can get away with'.

Most of The Beorach migrated to Terra Nova at the end of the First Age but some stayed in the North around Brummagem to form the cattle industry to supply the cities of Our World. They continued to defy all attempts to moderate their rowdy behavior and much exasperated the Rangers of the Eagle's Nest Ranger's Station located nearby. Law and order and Beorach never mixed. Later The Beorach started to immigrate back from Terra Nova under economic pressures, and to escape serfdom and a repressive class and religious system that crushed the poor. Many settled in the Blue Mountains as miners under Dwarve mine owners and others settled in the South in Sylvana later known as New Terra Nova which alas was but a rehash of old Terra Nova in terms of serfdom and absolute tyranny of king and religion.

After the death of Gildagad, New Terra Nova in the South engaged the North in a 400 year civil war which the Beorach excelled at but which finally bankrupted them and nearly destroyed Our World. Later historians speculated that the Beorach picked up many of their bad ideas about nation building from the Celestial and certainly both the old First Age city state of Finn-lomin and Tun-lomin and Terra Nova and later New Terra Nova all boasted kleptocracies: absolute kings, elite classes, serfs, and religions run by autocratic priests joined at the hip with the kings. Also both the Celestial Elves and the Beorach shared an extremely patriarchal society that abused women under the guise of treasuring them, and extreme intolerance toward any other race or tribe or lifestyle.

The Amberlings were the last tribe to migrate from the East in waves separated by long interludes. They were racially different from the proceeding tribes. They displayed a dark complexion like amber, hence their name. They inclined to shortness and slightness but brought amazing discipline to warfare. They fought on both sides during the First and Second Ages. Under Gildagad, they became his professional army, judicial and administrate class, and lived mostly in The Havens and other large cities. During the civil war they sided with the North against the South and stayed fiercely loyal to Gildagad's heritage of democratic government which they clung to with religious devotion. After Gildagad's death they suffered disastrous military defeats at the hands of both New Terra Nova and the Northern Barbarians which drove them east to the edge of Our World where they joined The Dwarves at The Last Citadel. The withdrawal of the professional army of The Amberlings left the North open to attack by waves of barbarians who ravished it almost to utter ruin. Only when the barbarians threatened to attack the South did the former rivals North and South finally make up to join an alliance to defeat the barbarians under King Astel who reimposed the government of Gildagad in the Restoration of Our World.

Under Gildagad, The Amberlings gave up their belief in slavery but always kept a peculiar notion of marriage: either party of a marriage of a man and a woman could, with the consent of the other, add a third member to marriage in effect making it a married triangle. They always brought a quiet but intense dignity and devotion to everything they did. To this day they dominate the professional army and still populate the bureaucratic maze of government. Regardless of the king on the throne, the military is still referred to as the 'Shield of Gildagad' and the Supreme Commander always has his portrait taken standing in front of a portrait of Gildagad. Much of the military pomp and ritual is still Amberling and still reflect their devotion to Gildagad. This devotion is based on the fact that when Finn-lomin fell because of the betrayal of one clan of Amberlings , this initially damned all Amberlings until Gildagad embraced them and beat down the racial prejudice that was erupting, fed by the bitter fruit of Finn-lomin bitterness.

The Valley People migrated into Our World, coming up from further south into Sylvana where they competed with the Beorach fleeing Terra Nova. The Valley People inclined to brown or black hair, hazel or green or brown eyes, and a ruddy complexion unlike the dark hair, alabaster skin, and grey eyes of the Beorach. They also tended to be shorter and stockier. Gildagad slyly dealt with the racism of The Beorach toward the Valley by offering tax breaks for people who intermarried. Alas the later rulers of New Tera Nova favored a more brutal approach to cleanse the inhabitants of supposedly racially inferior characteristics. Little is left today of the original language, religion, or customs because of 400 years of prejudice by New Terra Nova.

The Masters of the Horse are a stout, blond, pink skinned tribe that migrated into Our World in the Second Age. They first dwelt in the River Valley of the Mighty Majestic at the Falls of Gildagad but later impulsively migrated north to take over the abandoned Highlands then just as impulsively migrated into the great plains of The Gap. They were a egocentric people who saw everything that happened to them as 'Destiny made Manifest' and always wrote their history to place themselves in the exact center. Ironically Elven blood ran in the veins of their king and ruling families courtesy of an affair between a Horse Princess and Gildagad but they forgot about it and later drove the Elves out of the Gap. The Horse had a primitive feudal clan structure and an economy based on cattle, horses, sheep, and small farms. Once a year they offered a tithe to their King who enjoyed some perks and status but actually had very limited power in proportion to his Marshals and Ealdmans who elected the king.

They were a vaguely patriarchal in the Second Age but the females had a large degree of freedom and their flair for horsemanship and archery created a myth of the 'Wild Women of the Plains' much akin to the myths of 'Amazonian Female Warriors' in other continents. In the Third Age Horse Society evolved into a peculiar form of patriarchal society where the males were illiterate and lived to drink, race, gamble, and waged war largely isolated from the women. The females formed a sub tribe of their own, were literate, owned books , controlled their dowries and personal property, owned their own horses and fetishes, practiced magic ie sophisticated medicine, played chess, and ruled their portion of the divided home.

Raising the children were exclusively the female domain until the sexual maturity of the children when the father would then assume power over them. One thing still hung over from the Second Age: a woman could kidnap a young unmarried male and carry him home and hide him until he was persuaded to marry her (usually when she became pregnant). Most maidens, when they reached sexual maturity, (their first menstruation) did not tell their parents but rather rode out and hunted out prospective boys to kidnap in order to preempt their father's arranging a marriage ie 'selling them off'. Because the fathers never knew the exact time of their daughters arrived into womanhood, and because the mothers always helped their daughters hide boys in the female quarters, they were always preempted if only by pregnancy that sooner or later would result requiring the boy to marry her.

The Horse inherited metal late from trade with Dwarves but never left their wooden based view of life. Yet they introduced a very important revolution: the stirrup, saddle, and bridle with bit which made heavy lance calvary charges possible. Needless to say they became the Calvary of choice and were exploited often by New Terra Nova in their various military campaigns against the Amberlings and the North. In the Fourth Age they accepted the bit of kingship under Astel but only at the price of marriage of their Princess to him.

Today the descendants of the Horse still live mostly on the plains of the Great Gap which is now the breadbasket of Our World but girls still practice symbolic kidnaping by spending much of their adolescence cruising their cars along busy streets picking up boys who parade up and down preening in hoped of being picked up. Unlike other cultures, the marriage starts the night before the wedding. On their wedding day the bride drives her husband to be to the wedding chapel in her car. Nowadays the car has replaced the horse as the shared obsession of the descendants of the Horse with huge auto races held before thousands. Though the title 'Marshal' is now symbolic, it is prized as the reward by auto racers and by tradition the first, second, and third trophies are referred to as 'Marshals'.

The Real Estate of Our World:

The continent of Our World lies on an east west axis with the majority of the localities distributed along the same latitude. Frankly no historian, myself included, have bothered to write about this. After all what does latitude contribute unless you are in the middle of the ocean? Jared Diamond is the first to pick up the significance that latitude plays in history. He explains it this way:

"Localities distributed east and west of each other at the same latitude share exactly the day length and it's seasonal variations. To a lesser degree, they also tend to share similar diseases, regimes of temperature and rainfall, and habitats or biomes (types of vegetation)... the germination, growth, and disease resistance of plants are adopted to precisely those features of climate....Each plant population becomes genetically programmed, through natural selection, to respond appropriately to signals of the seasonal regime under which it has evolved... Woe betide the plant whose genetic program is mismatched to the latitude of the field it is planted!" ( page 183-184) Not only plants, but animals are hot wired to the latitude and the resulting climate and environment. So, needless to say, are people.

Our World's quick entry to successful agriculture, which in turn fueled the quick entry into city states, and then into a unified empire, all is based on sharing the same latitude and same general environment ideal for the best domestication of commercial plants such as wheat and barley and animals such as horses, sheep, cattle, and goats. Environmentally Our World occupies an ideal location. The first migrations were by Elves who then reaped the profit and applause of living in such a prime piece of real estate. But if another race had gotten there first then they, instead of the Elves, would be the 'celebrated titans' of the Ancient World. The Elves just occupied the right place at the right time and claimed the resulting success by racial right. But to paraphrase Mr. Diamond, "Our remarkable history dear friends lies not in the pointedness of our ears but rather in the location of our real estate."

Our World today has a semi desert areas on our eastern and southern coasts and a colder, snowy north. But the vast majority of Our World is temperate with a long warm growing season during the summer months. During the First Age Our World was balmy. Our Eastern Coast (which today is semi desert) was then much wetter and served as the nursery for much of our plants, many of our animals, and of course ourselves. One area of Our World is tropical: The Heart of Darkness which is ironically a tropical paradise prone to bouts of environmentally destructive self destruction both volcanic and man-made courtesy of misuse of the rugged, mountainous land.

Through religion stated the Elves were created by the gods and placed in site, all evidence indicate that the Elves migrated out of the fertile nursery of the East in waves of emigrations over two thousand years. And the 'Call of the Gods' apparently had nothing to do with it because the first Elves to immigrate were the Dark Elves who migrated westward to settled the Westlands along our western coastline. There is however no evidence they brought anything but themselves. They were primitive hunter gatherers armed only with stone and bone tools and brought no animals or plants. Next the Green Elves migrated westward and settled in the area today known as the Heartlands and Arcadia. They were also only hunter gatherers who only brought themselves. Their oral history, what little part that was written down by Twilight historians, tell of no 'Call of the Gods'. Most likely they immigrate west as they were pushed out of the east by Elves who were settling down and moving from hunting gathering to agriculture. As agriculture becomes established it always pushes out hunter gatherers who refuse the call of the plow.

A few thousand years later The Terra Twilight and Celestial Elves migrated out of the East and settled the River Valley of the Mighty Majestic, then migrated further west, arriving much after the Dark and Green Elves. The result was a battle for real estate presumed in the amber of myth as the war between the Sidh and the Firbolgs. First Age maps of settlements indicate The Dark and Green peacefully co existed until the Twilight and Celestial migrated west compressing the Green into the Dark which triggered the aggressive wars the Green waged on the Dark for the rest of the First Age. The spotted scattering of Green settlements show how the Twilight overwhelmed them, breaking up their hold into ever smaller and smaller islands of population that finally only dotted the countryside of Our World. The lack of Green language (other than a few stray words) reflect the cultural take over as well. The Dark were pressed against the coastline with Twilight Elves south and south east and the Green east hedging them into an ever smaller area. After the Celestial returned from Paradise they also attacked the Dark Elves and the result is that both races of hunter gathers: the Dark and the Green were compressed into the rougher, wilder, semi forest around what is today known as the Lake District. Though it was warmer in the First Age the Lake District has never been a rich land for farming. In effect the hunter gatherers were driven into land the farmers did not want. A hunter gather need a hundred acres to every two acres a farmer needs to support himself and his family. The Lake District was too small to accommodate both Dark and Green. Hence the War between them. The Green had the bow and arrow and also practice a crude wild gardening so they were more able to shove the Dark who continued as simple hunter gatherers armed only with spears and sling shots.

Late in the First Age the once fertile East suffered an environmental collapse from over farming, the clear cutting of the forests, and the build up of salt from irrigation. The population was too large for it's biological credit card and the result were waves of migration of Mere Mortals out of the East over the next thousand years as the nursery became a semi desert. The Amberlings in particular came to depend on war and raiding parties to supplant their ever declining rich farmland. At the end of the First Age a major earthquake cause two major eastern rivers to jump their beds and flow by different routes into the Eight Lakes which further wreaked irrigation. The East exported the majority of it's population leaving the one time breadbasket of Our World abandoned outside of a few oases.

In the Second Age Our World entered a mini ice age and the winters in the North became more pronounced, with snowy winters inland and wet winters along much of the West Coast. However the breadbasket of Our World continued with only minimal damage, concentrated in the Heartlands and New Arcadia and the Westlands around The Havens. By the Third Age the North entered 400 years of civil war and farming collapsed. The South became the breadbasket of Our World. By the start of the Fourth Age the mini ice age retreated north and Heartland and New Arcadia was restored to their original greatness. The plains of The Gap and the River Valley of the Mighty Majestic also became breadbaskets of Our World as modern farming and land ownership changed the populations living there from migrating or primitive societies into more sophisticated land ownership societies allowing more effective exploitation of the land's potential.

The oldest city and still the largest city is The Havens. Throughout the First Age it moved depending on war and flood. Since the Start of the Second Age it has been located at the mouth of The Havens River and Moon Bay. The Old City of Arcadia was settled later but was massively build over a short time while The Havens evolved slowly. The Havens first earned it wealth by the exportation of salt inland along with amber. Later, as sea traders came, the city controlled the spice trade and also the trade of Our world commodities of fur, wool, metals, wood, naval shipyards, and finished commercial goods overseas. China was the principle trading partner of The Havens for most of its ancient history. In contrast Old Arcadia served only as the capital city of Rhingol the Great and derived most of it's income only from taxation. At it's peak the First Age boasted Seven city states plus lessor tribal villages.

In the Second Age Our World boast twenty three cities or towns at it's peak including the Port of Sweetwater known of Londinium and Rondusburg as well as The Havens along with ten Territories each of which had a regional capital and Navigators to represent them at the Steering Committee. Gildagad created the original map of territories and founded most of the towns. In the Fourth Age, reflecting population changes, King Astel revised the map of Our World in a new doomsday book used today which is used for both real estate and election purposes.

The Blue Mountains on the West Coast still produce coal. The Iron Hills still produce raw iron ore. The Central Mountains still produce great deposits of tin and copper and other metals. The mithril mines of the Old Citadel gave out at the end of the Second Age. Most of the Old Citadel has collapsed as the mines subsided and the few remaining archaeological sites are too dangerously tainted by poisonous mithril mining waste to be visited. Even the carvings are too radioactive to be moved out and displayed. So no art of the Dwarve First or Second Age exists except for what little can be found in the New Citadel today.

Our World was graced with many beneficial plants born in the nursery of the East which the Twilight and Celestial Elves brought west as they migrated. We know this because the Dark Elves occupied The Westlands and the Green Elves the Heartlands which were rich in agricultural potential for centuries. But neither race of Elve found or planted wheat, or found or raised domesticated farm animals, and therefore lived as migrating hunter gatherers because there was no other alternate lifestyle open to them. Only after the Twilight moved to the Westlands and Heartland were domesticated plants and animals introduced to Our World. The Dark and Green had migrated west before agriculture and domestication of animals into a land rich with potential but no appropriate grains or species.

The Twilight Elves learned to farm in the Nursery of the East and brought the eastern bounty with them. It included include wheat, barley, flax (linen), peas, chickpeas, grapes, olives and lentils. They encountered and domesticated diverse vegetables, wild berries, rye, fruit such as cherry, peach, apple, and plum. In the south very primitive forms of corn and squash grew wild but their tiny wild state caused them to be ignored until the Valley People started selectively growing and thereby modifying corn into a more economic food crop. Nevertheless even the improved corn never challenged wheat's claim to the crown of the 'king of the foods'. However the potato was introduced in the Second Age and it did come to challenge wheat's claim to the crown, almost equaling wheat in tonnage, especially during the Second and Third Ages during the mini ice age.

Our World was blessed by a rich natural bounty of animals ideal for domestication: the horse, the pig, the sheep, the goat, the cow, along with the dog and cat. Again we know today that the Twilight and Celestial brought these domesticated animals with them for the Dark and Green displayed no knowledge of them and the Twilight found no such animal in Arcadia, the Heartland, or the Westlands until they came. However they still called the Dark and Green Elves stupid for not having them for the Twilight and Celestial could not remember a time when they did not have such animals and so assumed they always existed. We also know that the animals came with the Twilight and Celestial because the diseases associated with proximity to semi tamed and later domesticated animals ( influenza, smallpox, typhus, typhoid) came with the Twilight and Celestial who then gave the diseases to the Dark and Green Elves who had no resistance resulting in several catastrophic plagues that almost killed the Dark and Green Elves until they developed immunity. Only the fact Elves have a usually strong physiology saved them at all. In other continents the exposure of hunter gatherers to agricultural/domestication diseases usually suffer a 95 percent kill off rate.

Early in the Second Age the mini ice age drove old creatures further south but drove new creatures down from the once warm north including the woolly mammoth, elephants, tigers, cheetahs, giant sloths, and giant flightless birds. Alas when they lived further north they did not encounter mankind and therefore did not learn to fear mankind and develop life saving fleeing or defensive stratagems against hunters. Now hunters found they could walk right up and smash their skulls open with a club. Needless to say Our World saw a tragic "kill off' of exotic animals before their full potential as possible domestic animals could be explored. Our original, surviving animals had migrated west, driven just ahead of the Elves as they immigrated themselves like animals racing ahead of a forest fire. The animals fled carrying deeply hot-wired instincts for fear of the Elves when the Elves were only crude hunter gathers. The wild animals evolved their fear of man as man evolved as a killing machine. When the Elves settled down to farm they found that domestication of animals as well as plants was now highly desirable. So the horse, cow, sheep, goat, pig and dog was still alive and therefore could now be tamed. Alas beside killing off exotic animals that could have also possibly been tamed and domesticated, or at least more effectively exploited, the primitive hunters of Our World also killed off wild animals that boasted fine fur. Today we also do not have otters, seals, big horn sheep, mink, ferret, wolves, or bears.
